The breast lift is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape breasts that sag due to ageing and or having breastfed. Breasts of any size can be lifted but the best results are usually achieved in women with small, sagging breasts. The surgery involves excision of excess skin, re-draping of the remaining skin and a repositioning of the nipple.
The vertical scar technique is the most commonly used and it results in a scar around the nipple and a scar going vertically down the breast. Sometimes it is also necessary to excise in a straight line below the breast. Breast lift surgery can also be performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation.
Breast lift surgery can be performed as day surgery or may require an overnight stay. Dressings are usually kept intact for 1-2 weeks and strenuous activity is restricted in this time. A return to all normal activities is expected by 6 weeks.
