The face lift is a major surgical procedure that tightens and removes sagging skin on the face and neck and removes any excess fat. Superior results can be achieved for patients who have obvious signs of ageing.
An incision is made on or behind the hairline and then just in front of the ear. The skin is then separated from the muscle and fat layers below it. The muscles are then tightened and the facial skin is pulled towards the incisions. We then remove excess skin and close the wound with fine stitches.
If the patient so instructs, excess skin at the front of the neck will also be removed at the same time.
The surgery takes three to four hours under general anaesthetic with a one or two night hospital stay. Recovery time is usually two to three weeks, with final results being clear after two months.
