About Skin Peels
Medical strength facial peels remove the outer layers of the skin and stimulate growth from the deeper layers, resulting in a fresher, smoother and more refined appearance.
How do skin peels work?
Glycolic Acid reacts with the outer layer (epidermal) of the skin cells, weakening the binding properties of the lipids (the ‘glue’) that hold the dead cells together. This is the mechanism that allows the damaged outer skin layer to “peel off “to reveal the underlying new skin cells.
In addition, Glycolic Acid can penetrate into the new skin cells membrane, stimulating them to generate elastic fibres.
How many treatments are required?
This depends on your skin condition, desired outcomes and individual response. As a guide, we generally recommend 4-6 peels each 4 weeks apart with review at each appointment.
How long does the treatment take?
Each treatment takes about half an hour.
How long until I see an improvement?
Improvement in texture and smoothness may be seen after the first peel, however more often this is seen after 2 -3 peels.
Improvement in the appearance of uneven pigmentation is slower to respond.
Maximum benefits are usually noticeable after 2 months.
Do I need to use aftercare products?
Our practice nurse will recommend a tailored skin care routine that should be used a minimum of two weeks prior to the first treatment.
The costs of an individual peel starts from $160 per peel.
We do offer packages and these can reduce the costs of each peel.
The packages start from $580 for 4 peels and products.
We recommend for first time patients that you have an initial consultation with our Practice Nurse to discuss your skin concerns.
At this time, a tailored treatment plan will be recommended and the final fees will be discussed with you prior to any treatments performed.
